About

Michael's is a men's swimwear company that was born out of Michael's desire to combine his passions into his work: the beach, the water and fashion. Our swimwear has been created around our belief that, like the beach, our trunks should feel great and reflect our personality. We do this by traveling to Italy to visit mills to ensure that we have the best quality fabrics when printing our one of a kind designs. We spend countless hours mining our creativity to design our fun and unique patterns. Like us, our swimwear is made for the beach.

About Michael himself

Michael's Swimwear was created by Michael McClung, a veteran of the fashion industry and lover of all things tied to the beach.  After many successful years building men's fashion lines, Michael embarked upon a new and exciting journey in July 2012 by creating the swimwear that he thought didn't exist: one that fit well, wore well when swimming and was attractive.

“I have been in the Men’s apparel business for over 35 years and couldn’t find a swim trunk that I liked. They were too tight, too baggy, too short, too long or just not in the vibrant colors I wanted,” he recalls. “The first thing to do,” said Michael,” was to design a swim trunk that fit properly and that is flattering while being worn. I also thought that most swim trunks all looked the same, so I went about designing prints and woven patterns that are unique."

The creation of Michael's Swimwear is a natural extension of Michael as he and the water have always gone together.  Michael was born and raised within running distance of the Pacific Ocean and Long Island Sound.  He later chose to live on the shores of Lake Michigan and now the Florida Gulf Coast.

He is the third generation of his family to make a career in the fashion industry and to start his own company.  The first 8 years of his retail life were spent with Lacoste, where in 1950 his Uncle Vin Draddy launched and owned Lacoste for all of North America  He then moved on to help start Nautica in 1983 and worked there for 18 years until it was sold to VF (Vanity Fair).  His next challenge was to take charge of Design for Oakley Apparel Worldwide.  All of which prepared him to launch Michael's Swimwear. Today, Michael's Swimwear is sold in over 200 better Men’s stores in the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico, including Nordstrom, the Ritz Carltons, The Breakers Resort, Cheeca Lodge and Four Seasons hotel shops.

Story Behind the Logo

Years ago Michael was asked to describe himself. Always a visual thinker, he chose to draw rather than write a description, and sketched a stick figure with a balloon. People who know Michael will recognize it as an expression of his optimism and eagerness for life. He began using the figure as a signature on gift cards or when writing close friends and decided to use it as a logo for his clothing. What better way would there be to identify something about which he cares passionately.
